Personally I think if you drink Chardonnay after Pinot Noir would be unsuitable. Most "good" Pinots - I emphasise good, would be too "big" for a Chardonnay to follow.

In fact, the summer climate of Burgungdy is not unlike that of Bordeaux. Micro climate do play a part. Not much Cabernet grown in Burgundy because only Pinot Noir is recognised officially. There is not much land for use and geographically, Burgundy is very scattered. Good Pinot Noir can demand so much money, nobody would bother to grow anything else.
